Manual lessons only — and why that's still the right call.
After 9+ years teaching in Poole, Clinton has stayed deliberately manual. A manual licence covers both gearboxes — pass in a manual and you can hire, borrow or buy automatic without retesting. The reverse isn't true. Used manual cars are still cheaper and more plentiful, and the gearbox-skill argument doesn't disappear with EVs. If you specifically need automatic, just ask — Clinton is happy to point you towards a local automatic specialist.

Choosing well
Independent instructor or a driving school in Poole?
Most learners in Poole choose between a national driving school and an independent instructor like me. Both can get you a licence — but they work differently, and it's worth knowing how before you book.
With a driving school, you book through a call centre or website and you're assigned an instructor — and if they move on or get reshuffled, you start again with someone new. In April 2026 the CMA fined one of the biggest chains £4.2 million for adding hidden booking fees at checkout, so the advertised hourly rate isn't always the real one. With an independent instructor, the person who answers the phone is the person in the passenger seat: same teacher every lesson, one flat price, no middleman.
To be fair to the schools: they have more instructors, so they can sometimes start you sooner, and some offer automatic cars — I teach manual only. But if you want the same calm face every week, on the actual Poole test routes, at £42/hour with nothing added at checkout, that's exactly what an independent gives you.
