Parkstone is one of the best areas in Poole for learning to drive because it offers such a wide variety of road types within a short distance. Whether you’re navigating the busy shops and bus stops along Ashley Road or practising parallel parking on the quieter tree-lined streets of Upper Parkstone, every lesson here builds genuine, transferable skills that prepare you for both the test and independent driving.

Lower Parkstone gives you experience with busier junctions, traffic lights, and pedestrian crossings — exactly the kind of hazard awareness the examiner wants to see. Ashley Road in particular is excellent for learning how to deal with parked cars, oncoming traffic, and priority situations. You’ll also get comfortable with mini-roundabouts and the tricky give-way lines where side roads meet the main route.

Upper Parkstone and the streets around Penn Hill Avenue provide a completely different challenge. The roads here are steeper, giving you plenty of hill start practice, and the residential layout is ideal for perfecting your parallel parking and turning in the road. Many of these streets have parked cars on both sides, so you’ll quickly develop your judgement for meeting situations.

At just 10 minutes from the Poole test centre at Harwell Road, Parkstone is close enough that you can easily incorporate test route practice into every lesson.
